This week has been mixed for me. Both very good things and very bad things have happened.
As I have mentioned in my previous article, we had planned to move into our new apartment right away on monday. This did not work out at all. Why? Sure, everything is ready in the apartment except some small furniture but one major thing is missing: THE INTERNET CONNECTION!
Monday a technician was supposed to arrive and install all needed things for the internet connection (the phone line is 40 years old and there has been never any internet connection thus far) except that….he didn’t come. I called the customer support and they told me that this nice person was actually there but we did not open the door! Wait, what? Our family name is written on TWO name plates for the door bell at the entrance and in BOTH apartments were people waiting for this nice technician. We waited and waited and waited some more for the whole day but it did not help.Through Nathan’s picture you can see how I felt.
Later on I found out that this technician is not from the company I have the contract with but from the RIVAL company, yes you read right, from the direct competition. The thing is that all these phone lines are owned by one company and the company I have the contract with is renting these lines. So a technician has to come from the owning company, do some magic and voila, internet works through their competitor. Now I think that these people do every small things possible to make the customer of their competitor unsatisfied with the contract and thus doing things like not even doing their supposed job…Once again check Nathan’s picture about my reaction.
Now to the great thing this week. I have been on a job hunt in Finland for several years and never really got anything. Due to this I did some Freelancing stuff there. Yes, I have been unemployed for a pretty long time and now you may wonder why I still didn’t do more for the blog, but that’s for another time. We moved to Germany with the big hope that I would finally get a proper job. Now we have been here already for two months and I got one rejection after the other but suddenly I got out of nowhere and invitation for an interview at a bank here in my hometown. Right in the beginning I sent them an open application but never heard back from them until now. Long story short: I had my very first German job interview today and as soon as I got back home they called me and asked when I am ready to sign the contract! Now the world is fine again for me and Nathan
Next week I will sign the contract and start my work. Not only is the too long waiting period over which caused me too many worrisome times but also I will have a health insurance now for me and my family. The time is over for houseman Timo and the stage opens for the upgraded salarymen Timo. (who still has a crazy Chinese Family
P.S. I wrote this article within a few minutes to share some of my disappointment and my luck this week. Furthermore Nathan is doing well, no long time effects have been observed after testing the fluffiness and flexibility of his face

Congratulations on the job!!! 😀
Internet is important, and the way they dealt with it was really sucky, but… super congrats on the job! that’s fantastic news, and I’m sure you feel calm knowing everything else will fall into place now. 😀
(Also good to know no long term affects from Nathan’s adorable face smushing. XDDD At least not until you show the photos to some pretty girl he intends on dating in the future… May be some psychological damage there. (Is it wrong that I’m already planning to do this for my kids even before I have any? :D) )
Yay again for the job!
Thank you so much. I am really happy now/ my whole family is happy. It has been an incredible year and I think this will be the topic for the next article 🙂
I think there is nothing wrong with you. Many many people said similar things already and on Chinese social media he has already a fan club!
Haha, good to know. 😉
Looking forward to the next post! 😀
waaaa! congrats about the job! 😀 no wonder Nathan’s so happy 😀 proud of daddy! 😀 and think of it – if you go to work while your MIL is there… you don’t need to see her most of the day 😀
Yes, Nathan seems to be proud of future salary men daddy.
I really didn’t think about the other benefits yet such as avoiding MIL during daytime. This means the job is a double success for me!
Errr…did you not say you were on paternity leave a couple of weeks ago? I always thought you had to be employed to have paternity leave but you now say you haven’t had a job for 3 years. Definitely can’t get my head around this. Cute pic of Nathan at end. It looks like he will be spoilt by MIL when you are at work.
Yes, I was on a paternity leave due to my freelancing activities, however the income through it was so low that it was on a level which is considered there near unemployment. Thus I was doing some side work but still was unemployed at the same time.
Well, the situation was complicated but now all worries are gone with my new job
Congratulations on the job!!! 🙂
Hahaha, thanks to your bad luck we got to see this hilarious Nathan! Congratulations for the job, you deserve it 🙂
Thank you. Nathan’s face is pretty soft and feels like rubber so I just had to try just how flexible it is 😊
Wow!! Two blog posts in one week – I nearly missed this one but I am very happy I didn’t.
Congrats on your new job. It is funny how the job just came out of the blue but I bet you as well as your wife are quite happy about it. It will make life easier and worry-free as well. It seems that everything is falling into place for you. I guess your goal of finding a job wasn’t so hard after all. And who would have thought it would be easier to get a job than get internet? 😉 haha Hope your get your internet soon so you can tell us all about your new job.
It was really a surprising event with this job. I had applied their but as I didn’t hear back from them I thought that they put my papers into some deep corner of their office. I think it also helped in the application process that I did a one week internship there 14 years ago when I was in eight grade 🙂
A really amazing year and definitely worth a blog post!
I might consider writing two blog post per week sometimes, okay, whenever I have something good to write about like now.
Oh, that one week internship will have you in line for a managerial position in no time. 😉 However, all jokes aside, a bank job could have the potential for promotion in the future!
Congrats on the job Crazy and good luck for it! Your persistence and hard work has paid off, very happy for you. Landing a job is always unexpected. Sometimes you even forget about what job you applied for and out of the blue they call you back 😀 I am sure you used your time out of work very wisely, it sounds like you had quite a bit of fun freelancing.
I totally sympathise with your internet experience. It actually takes about 2-3 weeks to get new internet connections in your home in Australia. These contractors are always so slow, like they are taking their time.
I am not so sure how wisely I used my off time from work except that I achieved rather good results in my favorite game”lord of the rings online” …
No but really, I did a lot of housework, tried to catch up with the most recent developments when it comes to online marketing and communications (which is not really easy sometimes) and now tried to be not the most useless father for Nathan.
Getting an internet connection seems to be a battle world wide
Gaming is certainly a good pastime. Teaches us how to react to unexpected events and teaches us strategies 😉
I suppose an upside to staying at home and being out of a job for you would be spending time with Nathan. I am sure your wife must have been appreciative of you pitching in with household chores. Internet, water, electricity, mail, furniture delivery…all that is hard to get anywhere in the world ;D
I think my wife is both happy and also worried about the job thing. Sure it is great for her also that I can finaly work but this will leave Nathan alone with my parents for a few hours a day next month as she will start her six month german language course….
I hear German is one of the hardest languages to learn, so good luck to your wife and her language course. Nathan doesn’t look like he’s the sort who will cause any trouble, so I wouldn’t worry to much if I were you.
Big congrats on the job and good to know that getting internet and cable in other countries is just as annoying as it is in the US!
Thank you. I just read in another comment that it is an annoying process to get the internet connection in Australia so it appears its a problem around the globe. Especially frustrating it is for me that I have to deal now with this stone age 16.000kb phone line connection for roughly 30usd rather than my previous in Finland 110.000kb tv line connection for 9usd 😛 ( I know when you don’t have enough problems you just create some for yourself)
Congratulations!!! This seems to be a good week for jobs, I may also have work-related good news soon *^_^*
Nathan’s face… hahaha.
And regarding your internet problems, in Spain we have exactly the same issue. All the lines are owned by the company that used to be state-owned and if you choose another company there might be problems and both companies will put the blame on the other one…
Exactly the problem here. The main owner was state owned in the past and now we have this mess. Because they also still own all the lines there is no development such as glass fiber lines as they try to rip off people with the old stuff as long as possible!
Congrats on the job! I’m interested in how Nathan will take having you around less.
Thank you. I am also interested how Nathan will cope with the situation especially as my wife will also start her integration course in the beginning of December (Six months german course) thus leaving the little boy alone for 5 hours a day with my parents.
Wow, that internet situation sounds like something that would happen in China. But that’s super about the job – congratulations! =)
Internet providers seem to be world wide a mess. But anyways the new job helps me to get over the annoyance of the missing internet connection
Congrats on the job!! Hopefully that internet situation can be fixed soon so you can enjoy your new apartment! In the US, usually your internet is through your phone and TV provider, so they just take their sweet old time getting to you. They say, “we’ll be there around 1 PM” and then they show up at 6PM, haha. Good luck though!
Normally I was thinking of just taking a camping chair next week when the technician is supposed to come and wait outside wrapped in blankets to make sure that he gets to our door…but now I have to sign my contract on that very day and I have the slight feeling that this nice technician will have again some excuse for not showing up!
That’s awesome news! Congratulations and I hope the new job goes well!
Thank you, now I can finally rest a bit easier during night (as long as my baby boy doesnt keep us awake)
Congrats on the job! Been catching up and I think it’s super awesome that you did your most of your own house renovations! And I think that in these days, internet is such an important thing to have. I even went a bit crazy on my recent trips because the wifi was not really working…even my travel partner got annoyed by how annoyed I got with the wifi…haha! 🙂
Thank you very much 🙂
If I have unplanned no internet I go crazy! The main reason that we dont move upstairs due to the no internet is that we watch tv shows through online streama, my wife is doing business via internet and I need it for this blog (and gaming
