Plöner See

Remember when I wrote about the city festival in my hometown? There I mentioned that the first two days had superb weather but then everything was drowned by a rainstorm. Well, on that first day of bad weather we went to the Plöner See (Lake Plön) which is about 40 minutes away by car from our place.

Originally we went there because we were invited to try out sailing however once we arrived there was no wind at all. The air was heavy due to an upcoming thunderstorm. Though there was no sunshine  it surely was hot with around 30 degrees celsius due to the heavy air. So while waiting for some wind we decided to enjoy the time at the lake as besides us was also another family with their baby there. As we had enough snacks with us we hoped that time would pass quickly till some wind would show up. The children surely loved to play in the water and also to discover the playground even though they were still too young for it. I guess the highlights for Nathan was to run naked around the beach and of course the cable pulley (is it even the right name for it?).

In the end there was plenty of wind however it was combined with heavy rain and before mentioned thunderstorm so we just went home without any sailing. Perhaps next time we will be more lucky and can finally try out some sailing as it at least look pretty interesting.

Have you gone sailing on a lake before? How is it?

Be sure to follow me also on Facebook and on Twitter as I will post there occasionally pictures which do not find their way into my blog posts.

  1. Aww, I’ve been disappointed with the weather and beaches before but a thunderstorm is pretty serious so it was good you decided to forgo the sailing..looks like you still had fun..or maybe I should say Nathan had fun? Haha…😆😁

  2. Heavy air? Did you mean humid? 😀 Depending on my mood, I might like that or not. That pulley looks very fun…

I have never been sailing before. Water activities including those on boat doesn’t appeal to me. But I’m sure the scenery is nice on there. One day.

    1. Humid, yes and no, I have always this “feeling” that before a thunderstorm the air is unique. I experienced high humidity in China but right before the real storm starts it just feels heavy.
I love anything related to water as I had been swimming for so many years. However I hate swimming in open water such as lakes and oceans!! I just panic…

      1. I always thought you were okay swimming in seas and oceans. Maybe you fear sharks or something biting you, something along those lines. I suppose with open water, the current on the surface and below the surface, you can’t control that and that might make swimming harder sometimes.

  3. Sorry to hear that the sailing trip didn’t happen. Thunderstorms and sailing is probably not the best combo, but it looked like you had a nice day by the lake anyway:) It’s been a long time since I’ve visited any lakes except for the Central Park Pond, but I guess it doesn’t count:)
