Your money has vanished

Finally I found some time again to write a quick blog post. This is actually one I had planned for the last weekend but the whole family was ill thanks to the flu Nathan had brough from kindergarten. Due to this I was more concerned in somehow surviving and taking care of the family (as I was still the healthiest here!).

I do not know why and how but my dear mother-in-law is a constant provider of weird stories to share here. Sometimes I actually think that she is doing this all on purpose but in the end she is just so messed up somehow. Over the years I have shared so many confusing moments about her here in the blog and then I think “It can’t get any worse, she must have reached her limit” and then few days later she comes yet again with another even crazier story. I wrote before that she lives in some “own world” as she bends the truth/ reality to her own liking. She has never done anything wrong and in case something happens it was first of all her husband doing something wrong or some random person on the street!

I shall destroy your mind

This here is now another story about her not doing anything wrong at all as it was all done my another person. When the whole flu thing started for us she contacted us with a very disturbing message:

20.000 RMB (~3200USD) had vanished from our account!

That is certainly no small sum to just vanish from an account so my wife forced her mother to go the bank and get some information.  The bank couldn’t help at all as the only information they had was that the money had been transferred around 1pm and went to some account in Guangzhou. Immediately MIL believed that something went wrong when she wanted to book a hotel room for her friend on her phone. She thought so as she had no clue how to book a room and pay so she just hit random buttons on the app till something somehow happened. However my wife checked upon it and said “No way, your apps are all linked to my Alipay and nothing has been transferred”  and “Why on earth would you try to book a room for your friend??”. Thing is that her friend had no clue herself how to book online so she asked less competent MIL to manage it somehow.

Don’t talk crap about me, I never do anything wrong!

Anyhow by now MIL even went to police station but they couldn’t help her either as it had to be clear that someone else transferred the money and MIL was still sure that she had done something wrong on that booking app. By now my wife suspected even that MIL ended up in some scam as she often used that credit card in small furniture stores for buying stuff for the new apartment. You know the kind of swiping the card and copying all information on it…happened to several of our friends in the past years. Of course MIL denied that and said that she never ever used that card for furniture (though we have proof…).

Why is she so crazy?

Hours passed by with MIL and my wife getting more and more concerned about the money till Uncle called MIL and said that the money had arrived. Wait…what? Oh yes, MIL remembered then that she had transferred 20.000RMB to her brother around 1pm and she was even at the bank to do that transaction but then totally forgot about it. We had 6 hours of pure madness because that crazy woman had forgotten that she went herself to the bank and transferred exactly 20.000RMB. I mean that is so easy to forget right? In the end she blamed FIL for talking to her after her being at the bank and because of that she forgot about it so the only one to blame would be him! (Even though he was at work and didn’t call her the whole day, my wife confirmed that later the same day).

No, my dear Chinese mother-in-law has no dementia or anything similar, we had her actually tested. Father-in-law said that she was that way from the beginning ever since he knew her from school. This makes me wonder how she could even graduate back in the day.

Have you ever forgotten something like that or know somebody who tends to forget important things non-stop?

Could you please take something with you?

Our holiday in China is fast approaching and with it the requests from the Chinese family. Each time we go to China some of my wife’s family members got some interesting ideas/ requests. Usually it is something very simple such as certain food supplements, medications, clothes or small electric gadgets. Usually my in-laws are not planning to renovate and move into a new apartment as well. While as Granny, Aunty and the rest of the crazy bunch just asked for small things my dear Chinese mother-in-law has some other ambitions.

The first few requests were not even that bad as they were small items such as few tubes of silicone for the bath or checking for light switches. But MIL wouldn’t be herself without escalating rather quickly by asking us to bring kitchen cabinets, sofas, a toilet, flooring and wallpaper with us. Yes you read right those are all things she believes we can just take with us when flying to China. Some similar ideas she had already back in Finland when visiting us for three months. After my wife told her that it is impossible she told us that we could just have them on our lap when flying…I am serious, she really said it! Who in their right mind would ask others to take a kitchen sink from Germany to China?

Could you please take a microwave with you?

Up to this point MIL does not understand why we won’t do such a thing. She is asking all of this because she is 100% certain  that all these things are so much cheaper in Germany than in China. Needless to say she was shocked to hear the prices we told her and she accused her daughter to check only in expensive shops. I really do not know how she can still asks us to take these items with us after two months of my wife denying any of those requests. We can handle some small items but what she has on her mind is just ridiculous.

Such Ikea items she wants us to take to China though they have Ikea as well there…

For some reason she also got some weird ideas about how the apartment should be equipped. She really wanted us to get some high-tech toilet such they have in Japan and take it all the way to China. Yes such toilet is incredible expensive and huge. We convinced her that we would not buy such a thing and that it is a real waste of money. She listened and did not ask us about the toilet any longer and simply bought one in China. Somehow I am scared to think how the new apartment will look like when it is finished next year. All I know thus far is that Nathan will have tons of fun pushing all those buttons when going to the toilet.

Has anyone ever asked you to take some stuff with when flying to another country?

Another Trip to China

Yes, we will be travelling to China this year again. We haven’t been there since 2016, the year my father joined us there and we had the awesome City Tour Extreme . We did not visit China last year as Nathalie was just born in summer and we did not feel like travelling anywhere by plane with her (afterall she is the Thundergoat). This holiday in April/ May  is something we have been planning ever since last year. Not only because my father will be once again with us and additionally we will have two kids to entertain but we will be also travelling to Japan!

Soon again at the airport

Okay, Japan is like 90% certain as we are still waiting to get the visa for my wife. Turns out the whole process is a bit annoying for Chinese when travelling not with a tour group. Thankfully we had a wonderful person giving us advice at the embassy on what to do in order to make the application much easier for us. Japan is a country we wanted to visit for so many years as even nearly did so on few occasion. We did not manage to do so as each time something got in the way such as unfriendly embassy staff telling us in Finland it is impossible for Chinese to enter their country without a tour group  in 2014 to being just not healthy enough back in 2015. So right now the only thing stopping us is not to get a visa for my wife (or she just gets too lazy again to travel once we arrive in China).

How much luggage we will have this time?

My wife has been planning the entire trip for the past two months now and has a small folder with all the details! We will be flying from Xi’an to Tokyo spend few days there and then travel to Osaka for another few days before flying from there directly back to Xi’an. Within Tokyo we have not really planned anything yet as we just don’t know what to do there. However while there we will visit the nearby Studio Ghibli Museum and Thomas Land (that idea I got from Eleventh Monkey as little Babel is also a huge Thomas fan as Nathan). We hope that my wife’s cousin will have a bit time to show us around Tokyo as she has been living there for nearly ten years. In Osaka we will be doing standard sightseeing as that city is a must see in Japan according to basically everyone I know. I would have loved to visit the Nature Aquarium as I am a huge fan of the late Takashi Amano and his work but Niigata is just too far away from our two destinations.

No Nature Aquarium for me this time 😦

Except the trip to Japan we do not plan anything big in China itself. We definitely will have a photoshoot for the kids, similar to the one we had 2015 for Nathan. I guess we will be doing our standard sightseeing around Xi’an with my dad and I plan on eating as much different food as possible there! Besides those little things I hope we will have another trip to the Qin Mountains or some other countryside visitation just to get out of the city and all the pollution. I do wonder how well my father will manage this trip as he will turn 77 this year. One thing he told me already, he wants to go to gym during the holidays in China in order to stay in shape for his bicycle competitions during the summer time in Finland. Guess he is the most active person from all of us.

One of the dishes I need to eat!!!

Have you planned your holidays for this year already?
