What to do on a Rainy Day

Today it has been a very very rainy day. Not that I am not used to it already after living here for more than a year but it is still not really that great. It is wet, cold, everything is just grey and …wet resulting that there is no urge to leave the house not even to buy some groceries. So what do you do on such day? You watch pictures from better times!

Wonderful beach though a bit too stony

In this case I watched the pictures from our holidays on Rhodes last summer. It was just perfect there, everyday sunshine, it was warm and in case it got too hot we could just jump into one of the pools or the ocean right in front of the hotel. We spent one week on that wonderful island and now I just wish we could go there again right now. Sadly this is not possible as I am just in no condition to do so. However there is always hope for next year or the year after…I guess it is best for now to watch these great pictures and perhaps I might feel a bit warmer here.

What do you do on rainy days?

The Beach at last

This summer has been a bit strange. The weather has been more suitable for a late autumn rather than summer with only few exceptions. Due to many circumstances I had to stay at home during the few days of sunshine and great weather. However this changed a tiny bit as yesterday we could go for the very first time this year to the beach at the Baltic Sea here in Germany. Granted it was just a very very short visit but still I enjoyed this bit of ‘freedom’ and Nathan also had more than enough fun there.

What is all this stuff around me? Doesn’t taste good!

On a side note I must say that the Germans showed some great skills when naming the area close to the beach as there were villages called Kalifornien (California), Brasilien (Brasil) and even Bali! Seems that there is no need anymore for us to visit those places and spend much money on them as they are just around the corner.

Have you been already at the beach this summer?

Baby Pool Party

This summer so far has been terrible. Bad weather all the time with a few exception such as during the City Festival or The Big Medieval Market. However things changed now as a “heat wave” from North Africa is pushing its way through Europe at the moment. All the past weeks we had tops 20 degrees celsius (~68 degrees fahrenheit) but since yesterday the temperatures are rising. Today we had here in North Germany, at least according to the thermometer in my car, up to 26 degrees celsius and it will rise to even 38/39 degrees this weekend in some parts of Germany! (here perhaps only 34 degrees celsius but well, better than sudden snow or the like).

So what to do with a little baby being all sweaty all day long with no chance to cool down? You buy him an inflatable baby pool! I actually bought this one already few weeks ago but it didn’t find any use until now. It is a simple pool for little kids but enough to keep a cool head with these rising temperatures. Now it wouldn’t fit into our balcony but my dear parents who are still for a few months in Finland are living just below us and have a huge balcony. As we don’t really want to have a lobster baby we set up the pool in the shades and the water splashing time began. Even I found a few moments to get roasted in the sun. Normally I don’t “extra” go and try to get some tan as in the past years I always went for swimming  practice in outdoor pools during the summer and it did the trick. However there is no chance for me right now to go swimming due to multiple reasons and I saw a pictures of me the other day: Me standing in our garage with white walls, me wearing a white shirt and blueish shorts, guess what it looked like…yes, like blueish shorts and dark blond hairs floating in midair! So you can guess why I decided to get a few minutes of roasting today and perhaps again tomorrow…

What are your methods to keep cool during hot summer days?
