It is now already over seven months ago that our baby boy was born. These seven months have been pretty eventful for him and for us. He also managed to travel a bit around as he has been already to several countries. In his age I barely managed to travel with my parents to Finland as I was apparently not the easiest backseat driver available.
His young traveling career started in April with a journey to Germany where he met for the first time his German grandparents and Uncle. There he also tamed wild Elephants and Tigers at Hagenbeck Zoo and got baptized in Hamburg. During the trip to Hagenbeck Zoo he really tried his best to blend in with the animals but in the end the Penguins discovered the fake one in their midst and kicked him out. Few months later Nathan went on a dangerous tour to Estonia to discover hidden secrets in the Old Town of Tallinn and realized it is so much cooler there than at home.
Back in Finland the wild swamps and forests of Western Finland were awaiting him as well as fishing for monstrous pikes in a huge lake. It took a while to build up enough patience but in the end he succeeded by hauling in a pike longer than himself! Sadly the fishing rod could not withstand these forces and this was it for his fishing career in 2014.
In late summer the Island of Rhodes was welcoming him with adventurous days at the beach, diving trips on his father’s back for hidden treasures in the baby pool and relaxation at the fish spa. Just a bit over a month ago he turned his back to Finland and began a new life in Germany but not before saying farewell to his Finnish great grandparents . Not bad for a little baby but that is not all. Right now he is getting used to his new career as an architect by designing and supervising his own baby room in the new apartment.
But such a little monster is not easily satisfied with only a few career choices so he also decided to pick up modelling. This was at first rather hard as he looked like a mini version of Winston Churchill. To make it even worse for him this Churchill face will haunt him still for a while as it is used in both his Finnish and German passport for the next five years, poor baby. However Nathan is able to use this for his own career boost as his pictures as Mini Winston Churchill are great for “Before and After” slideshows.
Nowadays he resembles more a tiny human being and is rather popular with the ladies! Each day his crazy Chinese grandma wants a video chat as well as his aunty from Japan. The interesting thing is that especially the Japanese aunty had only every few months contact with us but now our little boy is dragged in front of the phone nearly every single day to look cute and stuff. By now he also has his own fan club on Chinese forums and on Weibo, good job Nathan, I never thought you would pick up Social Media Marketing this quick….well, the youth these days seem to get used to all this tech stuff much faster than us. Thankfullly he is still far away from his Chinese stalkers but as soon as he decides to advance his travels to China he might has to hire his own bodyguard (probably me).
Nathan’s antics are almost as good as your MIL’s. Excellent photos and a very funny post. That Winston Churchill face is so funny.
That Churchill face got rather popular in the beginning. He certainly had a lot of traveling in the beginning but now he can relax a bit more at home 🙂
He has to be the cutest little boy ever and he has definitely had an action-packed seven months. The penguin picture is adorable and the last picture is also so cute. Hopefully you can share this post with him when he is older. I bet it would be fun for him to read what you wrote about him.
I really hope that this blog/ content will be around by the time ihr is older and I can show all the weird things I wrote 🙂
The penguin suit we only tried on, they sadly didn’t have the right size for him and now we can’t find the jacket anYmore…
Thank you for sharing your adventures, Nathan! It’s so good of you to take time away from your Chinese FC and reach out to your blogging friends. Hugs from Thailand 🙂
Nathan mumbles something about “thank you” while biting on his favorite chewing toy. Let’s see what he will still do this year but I believe it will be a bot more relaxing for him 🙂
Lovely post. Nathan is adorable, even in his mini-Churchill phase.
Thank you 🙂
When we took the mini Churchill picture my wife was a bit shocked how grumpy he looked. It took us thirty minutes to wake him up at the photography store and right after that one pictured he fell asleep again, well he was only 6 weeks old by that time
Great little post about little Nathan. He’s traveled far and wide, already many stories to tell…if he can remember any at all. Doesn’t sound like he’s weary from all the moving around. Very nice of you Crazy to give him his very own room. Living like a King in a crazy world 😀 Does he have a favourite place so far? As a kid, I remember hating the cold winter months in Australia…and when I moved to Malaysia when I was seven I was jumping for joy at how hot it was there. One of the memories that stuck in my head all this while.
Rights ow his room is still under construction and I believe he will stay in our bedroom still for a few months until we start to get him sued to his own room:)
When everything is done in our apartment (or mostly done) I will write another article about it with some before, in between and after pictures
Good to hear the rooms are coming along nicely too. Would love to see the before and after photos – I am sure you’ve designed and styled your home very creatively. And practically too 🙂
Uhm I think you will need tons of patience when you bring Nathan to China and everybody on the streets will want to take pictures of him!! You should ask for a photo fee. I am seeing a business opportunity here!! 😀
Perhaps I should try to dress him up as a monkey when going to China 😀
Oh that would be a good disguise, people won’t be half as interested in a monkey as they will be in a cute mixed blood baby 😀
Adorable little globetrotter! 🙂
Better keep a reign on his Internet activities thoughーyou may end up with supersized toys arriving by mail order from Amazon soon if you’re not careful! 😉
It seems that we have to change our passwords on Amazon and other shops, he is unpredictable as soon as he starts smashing the computer keyboard!
Dangerous times a-comin’! I’m sure he’ll keep you on your toes (or rather, already does!?) with his leet hacking skills. 😉
Such a cute post! The “mini Winston Churchill” photo had me laughing!
He certainly does look funny in that picture. I will try at some point to enlarged the picture and hang it on our living room wall:)
It’s good to have them start young and then he’ll be an expert traveller by the time he reaches primary school! I’m looking forward to take my little guy to the US to visit my family, but also a little nervous. It’s such a long way to go (14 hour flight) and I will probably be alone with him (he’ll be 10 months when we go). Any baby travel tips???
I don’t have really any travel tips as nathan is most of the time pretty calm when we travel and all travels thus far where in early age so that he fell asleep after some milk on the plane and stayed in his dreams most of the flights.
I guess he won’t be that easy later on especially when my wife is planning to fly to China next year (about nine hours flight). Keeping the child entertained.is most likely the only way to keep them busy so they don’t get too cranky until they are tired at some point =/
Adorable penguin costume.
Gah! He is just so stinkin’ cute! Seriously! He and Seoul should date when they’re older. 😉
Guess Seoul has to line up, many of our friends and also total strangers asked about this already :p
Now I am looking forward that he starts to crawl…so far he only pushes himself in all kinds of direction but it aint crawling, it is some weirdo swinging motion with his butt and head plus hands which is enabling him to slide over the floor…
What an adorable baby. He sure knows how to look good in costume. ^^
Thank you 🙂
We try our best to convince him that dressing up is great but he prefers wearing nearly nothing. Usually he just stand around without shirt and slaps his own tummy…really weird
He is definitely one fine Third Culture Kid! Oh the perks of being a child of an interracial family–travelling from across the world to see both worlds! God bless you Nathan !
I really hope he will enjoy and have fond memories growing up in those two worlds 🙂
